The Rock Rings from Trail-Gear are thicker than the factory outer wiper seal rings, and require longer bolts. Rather than running a hex head bolt, Low Range prefers button head socket head bolts that do not protrude from the ring.
If you were to go down to the hardware store you would find the following: 1. They probably will only have standard head allen, and maybe not even metric sized bolts. 2. They would cost an arm and a leg. We special order these in large quantities so that you don't have to search a million places for them.

When Trail Gear tested the strength of 6 Stud knuckles, they found that running 6 OEM Studs on the 6 Stud knuckles was stronger than running 4 ARP Magnum Studs on a stock 4 stud knuckle. These extended thread lug nuts ensure that there is more thread engagement on the relatively short factory studs. These are required to install front wheel spacers, though recommended for the rear as well. Also recommended for thicker aluminum wheels.
Some people demand all Japanese components to rebuild their front axle. Low Range is always looking to give customers what they want. These are made by Koyo, NSK, NTN or Nachi. These have 12 needle bearings in the cage to handle stress at 12 points of contact vs others that may have less. Some people want brand name Japanese "Koyo" Trunion bearings when doing their knuckle rebuild kits. This is why Low Range carries both kits. The only difference in this kit is the outer felt rings are not included as in many other kits. This exclusive axle design is the first in the industry to be released with all new parts. Our knuckle balls are forged from 1035 steel, making them much stronger than stock, eliminating closed or bent knuckle balls.
The axle tubes have been offset above the housing centerline, so the inner axles ride near the bottom of the axle tubes rather than in the center. The result is an increase of 3/8" in ground clearance under the axle tubes. The axle tubes are made from 5/16" thick 1020 DOM tubing with an outer diameter of 3".
The heavy-duty, press formed, 1/4" plate steel center section is shaved to give you 3/4" of additional ground clearance under the differential. The differential mounting surface is made from 1/2" plate steel to ensure studs can not pull out, even under heavy loads. Our housings are precision alignment checked using start-of-the-art, 3D digital imaging equipment to ensure that all Rock Assault™ Axle Housings are 100% straight and true.
The Rock Assault™ Front Axle Housing will come in your choice of bare tubes, with spring perches installed, or 3-link ready with a panhard bracket included. For an additional charge we can install an inspection cap making inspecting your front ring and pinion a breeze.
