Ring & Pinion
Differential Gears
Are you feeling the lag of those bigger tires or plan on adding
some bigger tires? Anything more than a couple of sizes larger
and you will need some gearing help. Our supplier has been
making top quality Toyota gears for years. They are designed
to run quiet and last longer than other aftermarket gear sets.
Take your pick of several different ratios for each Toyota
axle. Most stock axles run 4.11 gearing with around a 30"
tire so we recommend 4.56 gears for 32" tires, 4.88's
for 33"-34" tires, and 5.29 for 35" tires and
up. We also carry 5.71 Gears but do NOT suggest them for heavy
duty off road use.

Solid Pinion Spacer
Solid pinion spacers prevent loosening of the gear setup preload.
Originally designed for older Toyota applications, Toyota
stopped using them decades ago. Solid spacer and shims replace
the crush sleeve. It takes a little longer to set up but you
won't have to keep retorque the pinion nut down the road.

ARB Air Locker
The world’s most highly regarded traction aid, an ARB
Air Locker is a driver controlled locking differential originally
designed to give serious 4 wheelers the traction needed to
combat extreme off road terrain. When extra traction is required,
the driver activates the Air Locker via a convenient dash
mounted switch. Pneumatic pressure supplied by an on board
air compressor engages ARB’s patented locking mechanism
within the Air Locker, thus preventing the wheels from turning
independently. The Air Locker is deactivated by flicking a

Electric Locking Differentials
Hundreds of people have used factory Toyota Electric Locking Differentials for years with great success, some being used for over 15 years now and still working like the day they were new. It’s just a testament to Toyota Quality when these differentials have been used in the harshest conditions, we have personally put them to the test in competition, and hundreds of miles of usage in Moab and local trails. Why do we like our electric locking differentials? First, for peace of mind we know that when disengaged we aren’t putting unnecessary wear on drivetrain components. Second, we can lock them in when and where we want, on the fly! Also, if ever a problem does arise with the differential (such as wiring) the actuator can easily be pulled off the differential with a 12mm wrench or socket and the differential can be locked in or out manually...something that you can’t say all selectable lockers can do when in a pinch. So you may ask, HOW DOES IT WORK? Quite simply put, an actuator me shes a splined sleeve into one of the side gears and the carrier holding the side gears, causing the differential to lock or bind. When disengaged, the splined sleeve moves away from the side gear (sometimes known in differentials as spider gears) and causes the differential to act in a normal operation or "open." Is this effective? Oh yeah!- When engaged there is 100% lock up in the differential. This means that you can drive off the pavement, flip a switch and hit the trail. There is slight modification however, that does need to be done to your existing axle housing for it to fit. There are many different writeups on the internet, but the best one we have found to date is the one HERE. We have everything available here at Low Range for your elocker install, so you don’t have to go to a thousand different places to find all the things you need.
Applications fit: 79-85 Toyota Pickup/Hilux, and 4Runner solid axles (front and rear) and all 89-95 Pickup and 4Runner "IFS" rear axles. (All require slight modifications)

Electric Locker Gasket
In order to install your differential, you are going to need a couple of parts. We usually use the factory gasket not for sealing the 3rd member to the axle housing, but for a template when doing the modifications to the housing. It’s a lot easier to see where the holes need to be drilled, and where the housing needs additional clearance to fit the ring gear. Since you cant just drop the differential in before modification- it’s hard to see where it needs to be modified. Believe us, it’s worth the money! Since you aren’t going to have the axle housing perfect when the modifications are done, we recommend using RTV Sealant instead of a gasket. Applications fit Standard Pinion and High Pinion E-Locking differentials. The gasket only goes one way, so make sure when using the gasket as a template to line it up with your 3rd member first and line it up with your axle housing. Flip gasket around for use with either standard pinon e-lockers and High Pinion 3rd members.

Studs If you are doing the modifications to the housing, you are going to need two 111mm studs. Since metric ready rod is readily available, we choose to use these in order to mount our differentials up right. Plus, for the cost, it isn’t worth the time to mess around with making your own. Applications fit both standard pinion and high pinion 3rd members. Small studs are used when differential studs removed are damaged or if wanting to replace with new. Factory Hex nuts available also, so all you have to keep in your tool box is standard metric tools...no 13mm head here like a hardware store nut!

E-locker Wiring Harness
Wiring getting a little old? Have an electric locking differential, but don’t have the harness? We now have available factory OEM electric locking wiring harnesses for all of you wanting to wire up your differentials yourselves. These harnesses will plug right into the differential connectors. However, both high pinion and low pinion differentials have different connectors so you can’t mix and match. Using this harness will give you a nice, clean, stock look and will provide years of reliable usage.

Tap and Drill Bit for Modification of Axle Housing
When doing the modification for a e-locker, you need to drill and tap 4 holes. Sometimes metric taps can be hard to find, let alone can you find one that doesn’t bust on the first hole you tap. We now have available both the drill and tap needed to do this. We aren’t just supplying you with a cheap imported tap....No this is a high quality 8mm 2 flute spiral point plug tap for easy starting with the tap and less breakage. If you do happen to break one of these- just let us know because we haven’t found a better tap to date for this purpose!

Automatic Lockers
For ease of install and people who are on a budget, Powertrax
Lockright lockers are hard to beat. Of course, selectable
lockers such as ARB air lockers would be much more desirable,
the Lockright lockers get the job done for a fraction of the
cost. Many differentials have a set of spider gears which
allow the outside tire to turn faster than the inside for
a smooth turn. These lockers still allow for this at low torque.
But when you add torque or are heading strait down the road
the locker automatically delivers 100% lockup to keep you
moving.

Detroit Locker
These Eaton Detroit Lockers are designed to maximize traction
by delivering 100 percent of the torque and power to both
drive wheels. Detroit Lockers offer full and positive traction
for serious rock crawling. Detroit lockers work like a ratchet
wrench, allowing one wheel to spin faster as needed for going
around corners but does not allow either wheel to go slower

Eliminator Kit
When you come home after a trail ride do you see oil leaking
from the center of your axle housings? The stock axle housing
studs may be pulling loose. No longer do you have to tap and
drill the studs out and replace the studs. Our new stud eliminator
kit replaced the studs with allen head bolts that won't pull
through like the stock studs. Kit includes 10 high strength
studs, nuts, washers and a tube of Ultra Gray Silicon gasket
material.

Creeper Joint™
Drive Shaft U-Joints
The Heavy Duty Creeper JointTM has been tested to 4,700 ft-lbs
of torque in Trail- Gear’s very own axle testing machine.
These U-joints fit most 1979-1995 4wd applications. Includes
four install clips and and Zerk grease fitting (not shown
in photo). These u-joints have been trail tested and have
been proven to provide excellent strength at a reasonable
price. Just as a comparison, the stock joints fail at 3,700
ft-lbs of torque. We find that keeping a spare is at least
a good backup when out on the trail.

Long Spline Drive Shaft Kit - 10 inch
When installing a lift and crossover steering you need a long spline drive shaft, especially in the front. A flexy front suspension system requires more slip spline then the stock shaft is able to provide. The result with a stock drive spline is the drive shaft comes apart on the trail. This long spline kit is designed to replace the stock slip section.
To install this kit the stock slip section and tubing is cut off and then section along with new tubing is welded in place. Tubing is not included but will be available separately at a later time.
With other kits on the market why purchase ours? All-Spline technology allows the spline to taper in to a shaft that is .180" larger than stock. These drive shaft kits are specially heat treated and hardened to prevent bending. Best of all it has 10" of spline travel, that's 2" longer then other similar kits on the market. That gives you the flexibility to make changes to your rig without the need to redo your shafts.
Kit comes with U-joint installed and tack welded in place to ensure it does not come out on the trail.

V6 Differential
Freeze Plug
Later style V6 3rd member housings have a hole on the top
for the anti-lock brake speed sensor. If your installing this
3rd member into an older truck without anti-lock brakes you
will need to plug the hole. These freeze plugs do the trick
and are easy to install with a small socket and hammer.
